When did you become a stylist? 

In 2005

How would you describe your approach as a stylist?

I take a very holistic approach. Who are you as a person? What do you want your hair to say about you? What is your budget, your level of styling commitment and your level of maintenance commitment? Together, we can find the perfect match for you, a cut and color that you feel great in, can afford and can style every day on your own.

What do you enjoy most about the salon?

We have so much fun. We are so many different personality types, but we can love and appreciate each other, laugh and banter, while keeping a professional environment that everyone feels comfortable in, stylist and client alike.

What would you say your personal style is?

I'm like bougie hippie. I wear too much jewelry, some of it thrift store, some of it designer. I'm professional with a distinct edge. I want to look put together and polished, but different and unique.

What do you see for yourself in the future?

I love running Sage, and I love my relationships with all my clients. I hope to keep being a positive influence in my community, both with my clients and by mentoring and supporting the stylists that I work with and are in my sphere of influence.

What are you most passionate about?

So many things! Making women feel good about themselves! My amazing family, fitness and health, scuba diving, cooking and music and, of course, my cats!

What's your favorite thing about hair?

The ability to completely transform someone's day, their feeling about themselves, their confidence. 

What's your favorite thing about Sage Colour Studio?

Everything! I love our quirky 100 year old building, our little piece of Downtown Overland Park. I love the stylists here, the beautiful spirits you have chosen to make this place their home. I love the plants, all the gold furnishing and have you seen the ceilings?!?!

Why do you love being a stylist?

Because I get a few minutes to speak into people's lives every day. I get to listen to their stories, I get to learn about their lives, and I get to give back in kind. I also grew up with very low self-esteem and I love making people feel good about themselves, as that was not something that I felt for a very long time.

What is it like to be in my chair?

I listen. I ask questions to work with you to find your perfect hair. I tell lots of stories. I laugh a lot. I talk about my silly, crazy life and I want to know about yours. Tell me what you do, and why. Tell me about your kids and your crazy mother-in-law and why your tween is mad at all her friends. Tell me everything.

Do you have a favorite travel destination?

The husband and I are very into scuba diving, so anywhere that I can dive, Roatan, Bonaire, maybe someday the Philippines. I also love mountain climbing so anyhow I can get a great view!

Is there somewhere you'd like to travel to?

I would love to travel to Europe. I want to be immersed in other cultures and understand their world.

Do you have a favorite type of music?

I listen to almost all kinds of music, but I am a 90's alternative girl at heart. I graduated high school in 1999, so chances are, if you come into the shop and I picked the music, it'll be all 80's and 90's.
